2012 PRSA Houston Candidates for Election

These are the candidates for the 2012 PRSA Houston Election.

Candidate for President-Elect (choose one)

This person will serve as President-Elect in 2013, intending to be president in 2014.

Kelly M. George, APR


Kelly M. George, APR, is the Community Relations Supervisor for Halliburton where she is responsible for developing and overseeing the company's global charitable contributions strategy, as well as managing the company’s global employee giving and volunteer programs.

Kelly graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in public relations in 2002 and has been active with the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) her entire career.

 Twice elected to the PRSA Houston Board of Directors, Kelly served as Secretary in 2007 and Vice President in 2008. She earned her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2008 and has served as Accreditation Chair for PRSA Houston since 2009. Currently, she serves as Chair of PRSA National’s Accreditation Marketing Committee and as an Assembly Delegate for PRSA Houston.

In 2004, PRSA Houston named Kelly the Young PR Professional of the Year. In 2005, she served as Chair of PRSA Houston’s New Professionals Group, and in 2006, she served as Chair of PRSA’s National New Professionals Affinity Group. Other positions previously held include Newsletter Editor, University Relations Committee Chair, Public Service Chair and Diversity Committee Chair.



Kelly M. George, APR

Saki Indakwa

Saki Indakwa is a Senior Communications Consultant for the Fifth Business, an international communications, learning and design company that specializes in employee engagement, internal communications, and change management strategies.  Saki is a highly organized and creative communications professional with over 17 years of experience working with diverse organizations.

Prior to joining The Fifth Business, Saki worked as a Development Director for a large local non-profit. Before entering the public relations industry, she worked as a television news reporter in Texas and Oklahoma.

Saki has been a member of PRSA Houston for eight years and is currently on the Board of Directors.  Over the years, she has served as chair of the Excalibur Awards and PRY Day, a professional development conference for students.  She has been a member of the PR Day, Programs and Excalibur Awards Committees.

Saki received a BA in communications from the University of Houston and an MBA from Texas Southern University.



William (Lee) Vela


Lee Vela serves as vice president of Public Affairs for the Houston region of Clear Channel Outdoor. Lee has also served as the Chief Communications Officer for the Houston Independent School District from 2008 to 2011 and re-joined Clear Channel Outdoor in 2011. Prior to that he had worked at Clear Channel for 17 years.

He is the recipient of nearly 50 awards of excellence from local and national organizations such as the Public Relations Society of America, the Texas Public Relations Association, the International Association of Business Communicators, Women in Communications and Clear Channel Communications.

Lee is currently a board member and treasurer of PRSA Houston; the Galleria Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Fire Fighters Foundation, and HEART, an organization that helps individuals with developmental deficiencies.

Melanie Kania

Melanie Kania is a Communications Specialist at Weatherford, one of the largest global providers of innovative mechanical solutions, technology and services for the drilling and production sectors of the oil and gas industry.

She has been a member of the Public Relations Society of America since 2010 and is active in PRSA Houston.  She currently is Media Mixer committee chair and previously assisted with University Relations.  This year she was recognized as Young PR Professional of the Year.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with an Emphasis in Public Relations, and a Minor in Marketing from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

Kim Miller

 Kim Miller is President of Graphique, Inc., a marketing communications firm, established in 1985 specializing in design, advertising, and marketing communications strategies for mid-size to large corporations. She works with several energy and technology based companies, such GE Fanuc, Hydril, Honeywell, Signal International and Geotrace Technologies, developing and executing strategies to achieve their marketing goals.

As an active member of PRSA since 2009, Kim is currently serving as co-chair of PR Day 2012. She has worked on the membership committee and as PR Day 2011 communications chair. She has chaired fundraising events at St. Justin’s church and John Paul II school. She was President of the Women's Club and also served as Chair on the Pastoral Council at St. Justin Martyr. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Design from Purdue University.



Kim Miller

Stacey Cox, APR

Stacey Cox, APR, is the employee communications manager at CenterPoint Energy. With 15 years of experience, Stacy’s work has included annual reports, advertising, branding, crisis communications, marketing, media relations, sponsorships, newsletters and online communications, as well internal communications.

She has been a member of PRSA since 1999, accredited in 2010, and currently serves as treasurer for the Public Relations Foundation of Houston. Stacey earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism-public relations with honors from Sam Houston State University.

Stacey has received PRSA Gold and Silver Excabur Awards for past work, including projects supporting the Hurricane Ike response and various sponsorships.  She was the recipient of the 2008 National Hurricane Conference Outstanding Achievement Award, Public Awareness, after serving as a co-chair of the planning committee for the Hurricane Workshop that was sponsored by the Houston/Galveston National Weather Service Hurricane Workshop, CenterPoint Energy and the City of Houston.

Trazanna Moreno, APR

Trazanna Moreno, APR, serves as the Chief Communications Officer, overseeing marketing, communications and public relations for the YMCA of Greater Houston, a network of nearly 40 YMCAs that represents the 3rd largest association of YMCAs in the country.  Her work blends the organization’s marketing and communications efforts with its strong, mission-based nonprofit work.

 Trazanna currently serves as PRSA Houston’s Vice President and earned her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2010. 

 She holds a Masters Degree in Professional Writing and Technical Communication from the University of Houston-Downtown, as well as undergraduate degrees in both English Textual Studies and Journalism from Syracuse University.  She is a faculty member of the University of Phoenix and teaches several online communications courses.

Isidro Reyna, APR

Isidro Reyna, APR, joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District as a civilian public affairs officer in 2009. In this position, Isidro maintains internal and ex­ternal communications for the district in coordination with the chief, ensuring the Public Affairs Office (PAO) effectively communicates the district’s engineering mission strategi­cally and transparently to a complex military, civil service and contract workforce as well as key audiences ranging from stakeholders to congressional representatives.

Prior to his employment with the district, Isidro worked as a public affairs specialist in the U.S. Army Office of the Chief of Public Affairs at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., and for the U.S. Army Operational Test Command Headquarters at Fort Hood, Texas, executing media relations, command information and community relations initiatives.

 A native Texan, Isidro earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts with a specialization in public relations from Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio in 2006 and became Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 2011. He is a member of PRSA’s Houston Chapter.
