Calling All Students: PRSA Houston Press Release Contest!

The PRSA Houston New Professionals Committee has an exciting contest opportunity for this semester. Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the communications or public relations field are invited to submit a one page press release about the PRSA Houston New Professionals Committee October 28 event, "Bringing the Generations Together: Learning from the Best and New Pros." Entries must be submitted by Friday, October 10 via email to Laci Theriot at laci_theriot@yahoo.com. Applicants must attend one of the four PRSA Houston affiliated schools in Texas: The University of Houston, Stephen F. Austin University, Sam Houston State University or Texas A&M University-College Station. Applicants do not have to be a PRSSA member to enter.

Come join the PRSA Houston New Professionals Committee on Tuesday, October 28 for "Bringing the Generations Together: Learning From The Best and New Pros." We will have seasoned and new professional panelists talk about the generation gap of today’s industry, ranging from themes such as media relations, community relations, and social media. Don’t miss this night of trending topics and discussion concerning the evolution of public relations. Our experts include: Lauren Rosenbaum, founder of Soversity PR, Sanah Sadaruddin, national blogger and Account Executive for Edelman, and Charles Hampton, Communications Coordinator for the Houston Texans. Our seasoned professional panelists are Judi Martin, president of JM Public Relations and Marketing, Margot Dimond, founder of DoubleDimond Public Relations, and Crawford Bunkley III, former public affairs officer for ExxonMobil. Mary Benton, former journalist and Media Relations and Public Affairs Manager for the Harris County Toll Road Authority, will be our panel moderator. Special thanks to our venue, Clear Channel Communications. Refreshments will be provided by Tommy's Grill. All practitioners and beginners are welcome. Press releases will be judged by the PRSA Houston New Professionals Committee. The winners will receive free registration to either the October 28 "Bringing the Generations Together" event or a future PRSA Houston monthly luncheon. The winning press releases will also be used as a tool to help promote our event. Winners will be notified at the beginning of October.

All press releases must include the following information:

- Must be one page in length
- Pierpont Communications must be mentioned as the official event wine sponsor- they are  
  providing a selection of Messina Hof wines
- DoubleDimond Public Relations must be mentioned as the official event Bronze Level Sponsor
- Event details such as the time, location, venue, key speakers, and panelists
- Tommy's Grill must be mentioned for providing the food and catering
- Deadline for early-bird registration is Friday, Oct 10. You must register on prsahouston.org
- Must follow AP style guidelines
