Culver Joel Turlington, APR, passed away August 13, 2003, at the age of 68. Turlington served as president of the Houston PRSA Chapter in 1972. He also served a term as president of the Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), as a delegate to both the PRSA and AMA assemblies, as a director of the Houston Advertising Club and as a member of the Corporate Relations Roundtable of Houston.
Turlington was a graduate of Baylor University and attended law schools at both Baylor and the University of Texas. He attended the Graduate Business School at Texas and the Bank Marketing School at the University of Colorado. He was a licensed attorney and a member of the State Bar of Texas.
Turlington served as director of Public Relations for the Texas Manufacturers Association and Houston Lighting and Power Company and later joined the firm of Ruder & Finn as a specialist in financial public relations, where he received many national awards for corporate annual reports. His next career move was as a vice president of Marketing and Advertising at the Bank of the Southwest where he led the bank to many advertising and public relations awards. He broadened his career and became group marketing director of Coopers & Lybrand where he also was engaged in consulting. Because of his interest in healthcare, he became the manager of Corporate and Public Relations for Memorial Care System. He later joined the initial staff of Career Visions where he served as senior vice president and general counsel.
Turlington also served as president of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and was involved with the American Heart Association both in the Houston Chapter where he served as vice president and on the state level where he was a director and chairman of the Communications Committee.
