July 6: Learn to Build Your Brand Like the Fortune 50

Hello [firstname],

July 6: How to Build a Fortune 50 Brand

Register before July 5 to reserve your seat!

From Time Warner and AOL, to HP and Compaq, to Continental and United Airlines, mergers and acquisitions are becoming common these days, with some taking place in our own backyard. What happens when a popular brand is purchased by another lesser known or less popular brand? How do these companies maintain brand loyalty? What sort of branding, advertising and promotions are in place?

July 6 at the Briar Club, PRSA Houston welcomes Jim Garrity, former Wachovia chief marketing officer and current founder and CEO of marketing consultancy, BridgeTwoWorlds, LLC. Garrity will explore the strategies Fortune 50 companies implement and obstacles they must overcome when they change from a well-known, fan-loyal brand to an out-of-town player. He’ll also share how companies downplay the loss of a local name (such as with Foley’s and Macy’s) and what they do to bring customers back.

Garrity retired from Wachovia in 2007 and launched BridgeTwoWorlds, LLC., which helps advertisers, agencies and digital media companies bridge the gap between the worlds of traditional and digital communications. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Burst Media, is Chairman of Canoe Ventures’ Advisory Board, Chairman of Digitalsmiths’ Advisory Board, Co-Chair of CLOVR Media's Advisory Board and serves as an advisor to Marketshare Partners and Evidon. Read Garrity’s full bio. (Under the Speakers tab.)

PRSA & KUHF Media Mixer Big Success

More than 30 public relations guests and more than 10 members of the media gathered for the PRSA Houston-KUHF Media Mixer on June 7 at the Houston Public Radio station on the University of Houston Campus.

Guests snacked on appetizers and sipped on their drink of choice while talking about pitching methods or life as a reporter. Everyone had the opportunity to tour KUHF and Channel 8 to get an up-close view of the stations.

Houston Public Radio generously donated coffee mugs, bags, CD’s, t-shirts, pens and more for the raffle at the end of the night. Water to Wine Houston also provided a wine tasting for four that one lucky guest was able to take home. Thanks to these donations many of the attendees did not leave empty handed.

This event aimed to forge connections with public relations professionals and members of the Houston Public Radio network.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
We would like to recognize Silver Eagle Distributors and St. Arnolds Brewery for their beer donation. A special thank you to our sponsor, Business Wire, for this event as well as their continued support with PRSA Houston.
