March 2: Save Careers, Lives by Choosing the Right Words During a Crisis

PRSA Houston welcomes Peabody Award-winning investigative journalist, Stephen Dean, KPRC Channel 2, as its March luncheon guest speaker.

Dean will be sharing insights from his newly-released book PR Misfires: Under the Gun. In his more than 25-year career, Dean has seen many surprising and startling crisis communication mistakes. From officials locking reporters inside the closet of a burning hospital to a prosecutor shocked by his off-the-record comments on the evening news, Dean turns real-life missteps into practical and crucial advice for those who may find themselves under the gun in the face of the news media during a crisis.

Making History with Strategic Communications: Lisa Murkowski’s Re-Election to the U.S. Senate

When Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) lost the Republican primary election in August 2010, many pundits counted her out of the race. Only once before in U.S. history had a write-in candidate won election to the U.S. Senate. What followed her primary election loss is a fascinating case study about the role strategic communications can play on the national political stage.

Webinar attendees will get the inside story directly from Kristin Pugh Bundy, the Senator’s campaign communications director,  and Mary Deming Barber, APR, Fellow PRSA, senior campaign communications volunteer, who will share strategy and lessons learned from this historic campaign.

Participants earn 1.0 APR Accreditation Maintenance Credits for a webinar. More APR Accreditation Maintenance Credit information
