Judith T. Phair, APR, Fellow PRSA

Judith T. Phair is president of PhairAdvantage Communications, a Washington, D.C.-area PR and marketing consulting firm with a special focus on education and nonprofit associations.


Phair has extensive experience in marketing, media relations, fund raising, legislative relations and communications. She was most recently vice president for public affairs at the Council on Competitiveness, a nonpartisan, nonprofit Washington, D.C.-based association of corporate chief executives, university presidents and labor leaders working together to set a national agenda for U.S. leadership in global markets, technological innovation and education. She has also served as vice president for institutional advancement at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, assistant dean of external relations at Johns Hopkins University and vice president for public relations at Goucher College.


Phair has consulted on communications, marketing and media relations for numerous clients, including the American Council on Education, Columbia University Teachers College, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Johns Hopkins University, the King Hussein Foundation, the University of Tennessee, the University of Maryland, the University System of Maryland (the Universities at Shady Grove), the University of Southern California and Drexel University, among others.


Beginning her career as a newspaper reporter, Phair has held PR positions at the University of Michigan and University of Cincinnati and PHH Group (now part of Cendant). She has been an adjunct faculty member at Goucher College and Towson University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate PR and writing courses. She is also a frequent speaker and the author of several articles, books and chapters on PR issues.
