Cindy Gabriel will offer perspectives and insights as the city’s spokesperson on Houston’s history-making role in the Katrina Crisis and subsequent recovery.
“The one thing we didn’t fear was a crisis, we already had one,” says Gabriel. She will share insights, war stories, and the amazing affect that candor and transparency have when all else fails.
Gabriel was asked to join a team of five media professionals, who worked MASH-style; under “the 24 hour rule” reaching out to evacuees, landlords, government officials and local, national and world-wide media. The team was recognized with a First Place Award by PRSA Houston Chapter in 2005.
In April, 2006 Gabriel was named Communication Director of the Joint Hurricane Community Settlement Task Force as the housing phase gave way to the community settlement phase. Gabriel’s experience ranges from City Hall beat reporter for KTRH Radio and KHOU-TV; Writer/Producer of the Dr. Red Duke Health Reports to Public Relations consultant. She will share some life-long communication lessons learned in this compressed-time experience about communicating in a crisis and most importantly, communicating to prevent one.
Cindy formed Sabine Bridge Communications in October 2007; a public relations firm that specializes in government and politics.
