Have you decided that 2009 is the year that you will become Accredited in Public Relations? Are you curious about the Accreditation process? Do you want to refresh your knowledge of the public relations profession? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will want to attend the "Accreditation Jumpstart" workshop on Saturday, March 7, 2009 presented by Julie B. Fix, APR, of Fix & Associates, Inc. Public Relations.
During the workshop, Fix will provide a summary of the Accreditation process and an overview of the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) that the exam covers.
The cost for the workshop is $50 for members and non-members. The price includes materials, a light breakfast and lunch.
Parking and Directions: I 45 to Cullen, turn south. Turn left at Entrance 16 in front of the Moores School of Music. Turn left into Parking Lot 16. Park anywhere. To reach the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication, walk across Entrance 16, through the park and into the courtyard between the Communication Building and the Wortham Theatre. The CTC and Room 239 are upstairs.

Julie B. Fix, APR, is an instructional assistant professor in the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at University of Houston teaching public relations and communications courses. She is also president and principal of Fix & Associates, Inc. Public Relations, providing consulting, planning and training in the areas of community relations, issues management, crisis management, marketing communications, special events and political campaigns.
A member of the Public Relations Society of America since 1991, Fix was accredited in February 1996. She served on the Excalibur Awards Committee in 1992, as Professional Development co-chairman in 1993-94, chapter liaison to the PRSSA Chapter at the University of Houston in 1998-99, and as an Assembly Delegate 2003-05. She served as PRSA Houston Treasurer (2007-08) and is serving another term as an Assembly Delegate in 2009.
She has been an Oral Examiner and Coach for the Universal Accreditation Program for the Houston Chapter for many years. Fix is past president of the Texas Public Relations Association, past chairman of the Public Relations Foundation of Texas, and she manages the annual Silver Spur/Best of Texas Awards program.
