Monthly Luncheon: Building a Fortune 50 Brand from Scratch

From Time Warner and AOL, to HP and Compaq, to Continental and United Airlines, mergers and acquisitions are becoming more common these days, with some taking place in our own backyard. What happens when a popular brand is purchased by another lesser known (or less popular), brand? How do these companies maintain brand loyalty? What strategies do they implement and obstacles do they overcome when they change from a well-known, very fan-loyal brand to an out-of-town player? If it’s a local player, such as with Foley’s and Macy’s, how do they downplay the loss of the local name, and what do they do to bring those customers back? What sort of branding, advertising, promotions, etc. are set in place?
