In support of the 50th Anniversary of the APR and APR month, the PRSA Houston Chapter will provide an APR Jump Start workshop on Saturday, April 12, 2014 presented by Julie B. Fix, APR, Fellow PRSA, of Fix & Associates, Inc. Public Relations.
During the workshop, Fix will provide a comprehensive review of the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) needed to prepare for the pursuit of APR, the Readiness Review and APR Examination. The Jump Start session provides PR and communications professionals who are considering pursuing their APR with a perfect opportunity to rediscover concepts, language and content critical to achieving APR status.
The cost for the workshop is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. The price includes materials, breakfast and lunch.
Parking and Directions: I 45 to Cullen, turn south. Turn left at Entrance 16 in front of the Moores School of Music. Turn left into Parking Lot 16. Park anywhere. To reach the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication, walk across Entrance 16 and through the park.

Julie B. Fix, APR, Fellow PRSA, is an instructional assistant professor at the University of Houston, teaching public relations and communications courses. She is Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication and faculty advisor to the UH PRSSA chapter. Fix is also president and principal of Fix & Associates, Inc. Public Relations, providing consulting, planning and training in the areas of writing, crisis communication planning and management, special events and political campaigns.
A member of PRSA since 1991, she was accredited in February 1996and elected to the PRSA College of Fellows in 2010. She served on the Houston Chapter's Excalibur Awards Committee in 1992, as Professional Development co-chairman in 1993-94, chapter liaison to the PRSSA Chapter at the University of Houston in 1998-99, Assembly Delegate 2003-05, secretary 2006, treasurer 2007-08 and is currently serving a third term as Assembly Delegate. She is a facilitator for the Universal Accreditation Board’s online APR study cohorts and frequently conducts "Jump Start Workshops" for those interested in pursuing accreditation. She has also served as a coach for PRSA Houston APR study groups.
Fix is past president of the Texas Public Relations Association, past chairman of the Public Relations Foundation of Texas, and she managed the annual Silver Spur/Best of Texas Awards program for more than a decade. She has won awards for writing and for successful communications programs from the Texas Press Association, Texas Public Relations Association, The Press Club of Houston and the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. In 2006, she won TPRA's Golden Spur Award in recognition of her contributions to the association and the profession, and in 2009 Houston PRSA honored her with its Legacy Award.
