SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS
You can help a public relations student trend tomorrow by supporting the Public Relations Foundation of Houston (PRFH)! During the Excalibur Awards Gala, a silent auction is held to raise funds for the annual PRFH $3,000 scholarship awarded to a deserving Houston-area public relations students.

Dr. Marc Boom Honored with CEO Communicator of the Year Award
Throughout his career, Houston’s Dr. Marc L. Boom, President and CEO of Houston Methodist, has received numerous accolades and awards. He was a finalist for the 2009 and 2010 Health Care Hero Award by the Houston Business Journal. In the 2007 Modern Healthcare “Up and Comers Yearbook” celebrating 20 years of the list, Boom was singled out as the “Star Student” of the “Up and Comers Class of 1999.”
The American Heart Association awarded Boom the “2006 Distinguished Service Award,” and in 2012, Boom and his wife Dr. Julie Boom received the “Good Samaritan Award” from Interface-Samaritan Counseling Centers.
Judi Martin, APR, Named Legacy Award Winner
Judi Martin, APR, president of JM Group Public Relations and Marketing, will be recognized at the PRSA Houston Excalibur Awards Gala as the recipient of the 2014 Legacy Award. A dedicated public relations professional, Judi has actively supported PRSA and its goals, and has served as a generous mentor, sharing experiences and advice with other public relations practitioners.
Judi joined PRSA and the Houston Chapter in 1980 and earned her Accreditation in 1984. Throughout her years as a PRSA member, Judi was the recipient of numerous Excalibur Awards. In addition, she found the time to make significant contributions to the profession through her involvement in PRSA, most notably serving as president of PRSA Houston in 1999. She has represented the chapter as an Assembly Delegate and has served on numerous committees.
Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture, will serve as Honorary Chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s Houston chapter’s 2014 Excalibur Awards gala. McIngvale was the recipient of the 2013 CEO Communicator of the Year award, presented by PRSA Houston. In 1981, Jim and his wife Linda started Gallery Furniture with $5,000 and a dream. His now famous catch phrase "Gallery Furniture saves you money today!” has become well-known throughout the greater Houston community and Gallery furniture has consistently ranked in Furniture Today’s Top 100 Furniture Retailers.
Mistresses of Ceremonies
Lily Jang, KHOU 11 News This Morning anchor, and Chita Johnson, KHOU 11 Meteorologist, will emcee the event.
Jang, a native Houstonian, landed her first on-air television news job at KFDA-TV in Amarillo. Since then, she has covered news stories such as the 9/11 tragedy, the war in Iraq and the capture of Saddam Hussein. Jang is an Emmy-nominated journalist who leads the country when it comes to social media interaction with viewers. She is an avid social media user with a loyal following on both Facebook and Twitter. Jang has been honored twice by The Huffington Post as a Twitter powerhouse. When she is not reporting about current events, she is a fitness fanatic who enjoys mentoring, traveling the world, trying new cuisines and micro-blogging about her adventures on Facebook.
Johnson, a native Tennessean, started her broadcast career at KRCR News 7, where she was named Best Media Personality for two consecutive years. She has received her AMS Seal of Approval and her National Weather Association Seal of Approval and is a member of both organizations. Johnson is very close to her family and has a miniature schnauzer named Doppler that she considers part of her family. She loves sports including tennis and golf. Her passion for travel has driven her to skydiving over the Swiss Alps, river rafting down the Ocoee River and rock climbing in Hume Lake. In case you were wondering, Chita—pronounced Cheetah—is a family name. In fact, there are five generations of mother-daughter Chitas in her family.
